Our Story

Something had to change.
They say getting there is half the fun, but what’s so fun about schlepping all the way into the city with 2 suitcases and a backpack? At some point either your Uber is going to get stuck in traffic or your train is going to be put out of service. Even when everything goes right, it’s still all so wrong. New York is more than just Manhattan and traveling between the outer boroughs and other cities needed to be easier. That’s why we started Catch-A-Ride! Whether you’re coming home from school, visiting New York or Boston for fun, or going to see grandma, we’re here to save you time and stress!

Started from the bottom, now we’re here!
The idea of an intercity bus service from the outer boroughs sounded great, but would it really work? We decided it was time to put up or shut up, so we tested our theory for the first time during Thanksgiving weekend of 2016 on a route between Brooklyn and Boston with a stop in The Bronx. It was a hit, but we wanted to make sure it wasn’t a fluke, so we kept testing it on major travel weekends. While ridership fluctuated for certain holidays, we continued to do our research about who would need a service such as ours. As the case for Catch-a-Ride bus service between the outer boroughs of NYC and other cities built up more and more, we entered into a business plan grant competition hosted by the Brooklyn Public Library and in December of 2017, won first place. With the winnings, we made improvements, applied for official permits for our bus stops, and in May of 2018, launched twice weekly service! We saw ridership steadily grow through the remainder of 2018 and in January of 2019, decided it was time to take a step back and prepare ourselves for a full launch of our service.

Coming soon, Catch-a-Ride will be proudly launching its next schedule expansion, offering more trips on more days of the week between New York and Boston. As we continue to grow and learn from our customers, we look forward to adding more schedules to more destinations.
